THE FRONT, 2012-2015
The Front, an artist-run collective and not-for-profit gallery, fosters the development of contemporary art in the city of New Orleans through innovative exhibitions, lectures, screenings, performances, and other arts programming, all of which are free and open to the public. Founded by artists in 2008 amidst the post-Katrina resurgence of New Orleans and committed to a spirit of grassroots DIY determinism, The Front cultivates new and experimental work, in particular from emerging artists, but also from nationally and internationally known artists. My participation in the collective has involved the organization of eight exhibitions from 2012 - 2015, in addition to numerous group exhibitions and the co-curation of our collective exchange program, which involves trading our four-room gallery with three different artist run spaces (regional, national, and international). During the course of this program we have completed exchanges with Vox Populi (Philadelphia), MASS Gallery (Austin), Ginza Art Lab (Tokyo), FERAL (Mexico City), and exhibited at the Biggins Gallery at Auburn University. The below selection of images is from various group shows and collaborative projects. For more information of The Front visit www.nolafront.org.
